Notre Dame
Notre Dame is one of the most stunning cathedrals you can come across on the continent and is regarded as one of the oldest Gothic-style buildings in the world. The construction was fairly slow owing to many complications it had along the way. It was started in 1163 and ended in 1245, having been a great effort by the city. The name has a religious meaning, since it means Our Lady and is concerned with Virgin Mary. The cathedral also had a Catholic nature but over time it has become one of the most important monuments of the city and it, therefore, does not matter if you are pious or not. A magnificent artwork that one just can’t miss during any worthwhile visit to Paris. This Gothic style is very well reflected particularly in the exterior, wherein the details and shapes are incredible, leaving you open-mouthed as soon as you look at them. The best part about its interior is going to the south tower, which, after 387 steps, provides you with one of the best views of the city and the Seine. The bell tower takes some beating.
